About me

Hi and welcome to Fabric Art by IsSara.

My name is Sara Prachyakul, Issara is my pseudonym, the translation from Thai means freedom.

I was born in Thailand and have been interested in art since childhood and although I was always busy with traditional schoolwork and a business degree at university, my art provided a profound personal outlet that helped me to relax.

My love of sewing, fabric, colour and texture had been nurtured for me from a very early age, as one of three daughters of a dressmaker, I started stitching and making my own dolls’ apparel at age 5.

After moving to Australia in 2008, I have been inspired by the constant exposure to an artistic environment at my workplace, Bundanon Trust, and in this particular medium of textile art by a talented friend and mentor, Nancye Donaldson.

As a mixed media textile artist based in Cambewarra Village, I use lots of fabrics including my own Eco printing fabrics, lace, organza, wool, multiple threads and yarns in different weights and textures, paints and beads.  An assortment of garment fabric remnants I use is from ‘left over’ fabrics from the Op-Shops and my previous projects, I use the leaves and flowers from my garden for my Eco printing.

While my choice of improvising is with the leftover materials and my own eco print fabric, I realised the infinite artistic potential of using any objects that I can stitch down to illustrate the beautiful environment in Australia.
